Betty Ann Williams, the daughter of Cyril Thomas and Inez (Peters) March, was born on July 7, 1929, in rural Hampton, Iowa. She attended country schools and Hampton High School, graduating in 1946. Following graduation, Betty worked briefly at a grocery store in Coulter, Iowa. On October 2, 1948, Betty married John Joseph Williams in Iowa Falls, Iowa. The couple made their home in Irwin, Iowa, for more than 35 years. Following John’s death on April 23, 1982, Betty moved to Harlan, Iowa. She lived in her own home until May 2015, when she became a resident of the Elm Crest Retirement Community.

In addition to being a wife and mother, Betty worked for 23 years as a Clerk for the City of Harlan. She also sold Avon products for more than ten years, and later managed the Villa Apartments for ten years.

Betty was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Irwin, Iowa, where she was a member of the Ladies Group and had served on the church council. She enjoyed playing bridge, as well as bowling and crocheting.

Betty A. Williams died on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, having reached the age of 86 years and 3 months.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; and one brother, Jim March. She is survived by two sons, Pastor Michael (Amy) Williams of Kerrville, Texas, and Mark (Traci) Williams of Denver, Colorado; one daughter, Debra Becker of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Marilyn (Warren) Davison of Mason City, Iowa; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on Monday, October 12, 2015, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Irwin, Iowa, with Pastor Ron Rasmussen officiating. Nancy Larson served as the organist. Casket bearers were Mike Fara, Eric Fara, Chris Williams, Dan Murray, Dylan Kimmen, Jeremy Becker, and Steve Petersen. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Irwin, Iowa. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Irwin, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
