Bonnie Lea Buman

June 7, 1942 — February 27, 2024

Bonnie Lea Buman was born on June 7, 1942, the daughter of Fabian and Dolores (Coven) Brada in Elyria, Ohio. She was baptized and later confirmed into the Catholic faith. Bonnie received her education from Widefield High School in Security, Colorado. She graduated from Loretta Heights College in Denver, Colorado with her teaching degree. She graduated top of her class in both high school and college. 

 Bonnie worked as a teacher for one year in Colorado. She married Joe Buman on August 7, 1965, in Security, Colorado and moved to Joe’s family farm west of Harlan, Iowa. The couple had six children and Bonnie worked as a patient and loving homemaker, caring for all six children.

 Bonnie was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth for many years. She then joined St. Michael’s Catholic Church after the couple retired and moved to Harlan. Education was important to Bonnie. She encouraged learning and taught  CCD. She enjoyed visiting Colorado to see the mountains and her extended family. Some of her favorite pastimes were playing board games with her family, reading, crafting and cross-stitching. She was a mom through and through. She loved being a grandma and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren will always remember her enthusiastic  and never-ending support. 

 Bonnie passed away at home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the age of 81 years, eight months and 20 days. 

 Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joe Buman of Harlan; children: Tony (Cathy) Buman of Harlan, Dan (Karen) Buman of Harlan, Barb (John) Amfahr of Indianola, Deb (EJ) Nau of West Des Moines, Jeff (Janet) Buman of Harlan, and Nate (Harper Levy) Buman of Norwalk; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson; siblings: Paul (Kathy) Brada of Springtown, Texas, Maryellen (Roy) Maunszak of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Nancy (Steve) Matli of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Elizabeth (Stephen) Lomme of Centennial, Colorado; and many other relatives and friends. 

 A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Dream Playground Re-Imagined Project, which will be renamed Grandma B’s Dream Playground, in her memory. Memorials can be mailed to the City of Harlan, 711 Durant Street, P.O. Box 650, Harlan, Iowa 51537.
