Bruce John Juhl, age 66, passed away on May 31, 2024 in his home in Irwin, Shelby County, Iowa. He was born on March 29, 1958 in Des Moines to Lillian (Zaiger) Juhl and LaVerne Lowell Juhl. The family lived in Elkhart and moved to a farm near Irwin in the spring of 1959.
Bruce started school in Irwin and graduated from Manilla High School in 1976. He played football well with the Hawks. He played the trombone, sang, and acted in school plays. He participated and won several medals in small group contests and solos.
After high school, Bruce attended Iowa Central Community College, prior to joining the United States Navy, where he served as a fire control technician. After his honorable discharge, he went to Brazosport College in Lake Jackson, Texas where Bruce earned an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science (Maintenance Option) and Instrumentation Technology.
Bruce moved to Denver, Colorado where he acquired his dog Chyna, a dachshund. He worked as a Mainframe Computer Operator the rest of his career. He moved back to Irwin in 2013 where he lived until he passed away. He was an active in Republican grassroots politics in Colorado and Iowa.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Laverne and Lillian Juhl; and brothers: Lowell Juhl and his wife Wanda and Merle Juhl and his wife Cynda.
He is survived by his sister, Myrna and husband Richard Schwarte of Templeton; brother, Roger Juhl and wife Karen of Akron, PA; and his nephews and nieces: David Juhl and wife Kristine of Anacortes, WA; Jeff Juhl of Des Moines; Anne and her husband Alan Loew of Carroll; Jeanine and her husband John Flies of Norwalk; Vernon Schwarte and wife Melanie of Portsmouth; and Rick Schwarte of Ryan, Iowa. He also leaves behind many other relatives and friends.
Family Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024 in the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan.
