Cynda Ann Juhl was born on April 13, 1950, the daughter of Alvin Harold and Clara (Wiley) Musfeldt. She was baptized and later confirmed her faith at the First United Methodist Church in Manning, Iowa. Cynda received her education from a country school near Manning until fourth grade. She graduated from Manning High School with the class of 1968. She then went on to the University of Iowa and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1972.
Cynda married Merle Juhl on August 15, 1970, in Manning. They were able to travel to a variety of different places due to their careers. Cynda worked as a registered nurse for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital for over 30 years and spent time working in Des Moines, Seattle, Washington, St. Louis, Missouri, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Following her retirement in 2007, she moved to Harlan, Iowa.
Cynda spent her retirement traveling and some of her favorite destinations were Israel, Costa Rica and the Caribbean. She also volunteered with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIIP). She also enjoyed making hats with the Happy Hatters. Above all, she cherished spending time with family.
Cynda passed away at her home on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the age of 73 years, eight months and 17 days.
Cynda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle Juhl in 2003; infant brother, Rodney; and brothers-in-law: Earl Steffes and Lowell Juhl. She is survived by her sister, Pastor Vickie Steffes of Manning; brothers: Randy Musfeldt of Manning and Rick (Cheryl) Musfeldt of Des Moines; nieces and nephews: Ed (Tina) Steffes of Manning, Sarah Benz (Ryan) of Lohrville, Jesse Musfeldt of Coon Rapids, Alison (Dustin) Hartman of Manson, Evan Musfeldt of Denver, Colorado, Cora Musfeldt of Charleston, South Carolina, and Brenna (Kurt) Norbar of Charleston, South Carolina; great-nieces and great-nephews: Olivia Wiese, Abigail and Blaire Hartman, Kayla and Connor Musfeldt, and Mac Norbar; siblings-in-law: Myrna (Richard) Schwarte of Templeton, Roger and Karen Juhl of Akron, Pennsylvania and Bruce Juhl of Irwin; and many other relatives and friends.
Her visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. with her memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. all on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Church of Christ in Harlan. Inurnment will follow in the Harlan Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
