Darrell Charles “Goose” Gross was born on June 9, 1951, in Shelby County, Iowa, to Leo and Ruth M. (Feser) Gross. He graduated from Harlan High School in 1970 and spent his entire career working in agriculture.
Darrell had a passion for vegetable gardening and loved sharing his harvest with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed visiting casinos with friends and was known for his laid-back personality. One of his favorite pastimes was cruising around town in his beloved 2002 Sebring Convertible.
Darrell passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ruth Gross; his sister, Lorraine Lusero; and his brother, Allen Gross.
Darrell is survived by his children: Amanda (Bob) Simon of Harlan, Adam (Laura) Gross of Omaha, and Alex (Samantha) Gross of Lincoln, NE; six grandchildren; his siblings: Pat (Gene) Leuschen of Panama, Gaylord “Joe” (Gail) Gross of Earling, and Joanne (Frank) Oppold of Dunlap; brother-in-law, John Lusero of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law, Diane Gross of Holton, KS; goddaughter, Allison (Tyler) Bruck of Earling; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Heartland Funeral Home in Harlan. Graveside Services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Earling.
