Dolores Beatrice Mickelson, the daughter of Hjalmer and Isabel (Nelson) Wiig, was born on April 23, 1926, in rural Irwin, Iowa. She graduated from Irwin Consolidated School in 1943. Dolores then worked for five years for Farmers Savings Bank in Irwin. On January 8, 1949, Dolores married Howard Gail Mickelson at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church parsonage in Irwin. Dolores was a member of the Irwin Church of Christ, where she had once been active in the Ladies Missionary Group. She had also served as a Sunday School teacher for ten years and sang in the choir. In recent years, Dolores had attended the First Baptist Church in Harlan, Iowa, and she greatly appreciated the visits from Pastor Dan Hawn.

Dolores and Howard started the Greenridge Steam and Gas Antique Show on the Mickelson Family Farm; the Show continues to be held annually. Dolores loved to cook and was known for her homemade pies and Norwegian Kringla. She did a lot of sewing and made many of her children’s clothes.
