Everett Willis Lamer, the son of Forest and Marvel (Mutum) Lamer, was born on October 6, 1924, in rural Walnut, Iowa. He attended country school at Monroe Township #6, and then began farming with his father north of Walnut. On February 23, 1952, Everett married Alice Rita Proksel in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple made their home on the family farm, and Everett lived there until the last two years, when he resided at Peace Haven, Walnut, Iowa.

Everett was an old-school farmer, using horses during his younger years. Later, his John Deere 2010, purchased new in Elk Horn, Iowa, in 1964, served him well. It was restored in 2016 and driven in many area parades. Everett enjoyed grilling and spending Sunday family nights with loved ones, often playing cards. He was frequently seen at various Shelby County (Iowa) and Iowa State Fair 4-H events, actively supporting his children and grandchildren.

Everett W. Lamer died on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa. He had reached the age of 95 years, 3 months, and 5 days.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice Rita Lamer, on March 13, 2018; one great-grandson, Ethan Chipman; and one sister, Arlene Andersen. He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Rick) Chipman of Harlan, Iowa, and Cathy Lamer of Shelby, Iowa; three grandchildren, Adam (Anne) Chipman of Harlan, Iowa, Jerad (Katrina) Chipman of Sugar Grove, Illinois, and Amanda Chipman of Ames, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Isaac Chipman and Luke Chipman, both of Harlan, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Phillip Nielsen of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, Iowa, officiating. Casket bearers were Adam Chipman, Jerad Chipman, Amanda Chipman, John Luth, Loren Luth, and Jeff Hansen. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Walnut, Iowa.
