Frank Daniel Velasco was born on December 16, 1945, the son of Pete and Mary (Dominguez) Velasco in Julesburg, Colorado. He baptized and later confirmed in the Catholic faith. He attended Ogallala High School in Nebraska and graduated with the class of 1964. After completing his education, he held various jobs before beginning a long-standing career with Union Pacific, where he worked on the railroad for many years until his well-earned retirement.
Frank met Kim Johnson while working on the railroad, and the two were married in 1990 in Omaha, Nebraska. They were blessed with two children: Daniel, born in North Platte, Nebraska, and Angela, born in Omaha. The family lived in North Platte before eventually settling in Omaha. Following their divorce, Frank continued to reside in Omaha. In 2021, he relocated to Harlan, Iowa, to be closer to family and to live with his daughter.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Harlan. Frank had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, golfing, and participating in numerous bowling leagues throughout his life. More than anything, he treasured spending time with his family and creating lasting memories with his grandchildren.
Frank passed away at his home on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the age of 79 years, five months and 23 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Frank Velasco on April 8, 2025; and siblings: Angelo Velasco and Louise Greig.
He is survived by his daughter, Angie Velasco and her children: Charleigh and Nora of Harlan; his son Daniel’s children; Esther Stark of Denver, Colorado, JoAnn (Gary) Edgar of Fort Collins, Colorado and Deb (Ken) Taylor of Canada; and other family members and friends.
Private services will be held with the family and his burial will take place in the North Platte Cemetery in North Platte, Nebraska.
