Harry Edmond Barton, the son of Raymond Pope and Myrtle (Freeman) Barton, was born on December 10, 1926, in Avoca, Iowa. He attended Harlan (Iowa) schools and graduated from Harlan High School. On September 12, 1948, Harry married Edna Grace Buck in Shelby, Iowa, and the couple lived in Harlan. In 1951, Harry enlisted in the United States Air Force. In 1968, the couple moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Harry served as an Air Force recruiter. Upon his discharge in 1972, Harry had actively served his country for 20 years. He then attended Barber College, and owned and operated “Harry’s Barber Shop” in Colorado Springs.

Harry enjoyed fishing, golfing, and motorcycle riding with his son, Doug. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Harry E. Barton died on January 23, 2006, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the age of 79 years, 1 month, and 13 days.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ray Barton. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edna Barton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one son, Doug Barton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter, Donna (Gary) Hackett of Alexandria, Kentucky; two brothers, Robert (Marge) Barton of Harlan, Iowa, and Don (Dorothy) Barton of Bradenton, Florida; one sister, Virginia (David) Lynch of Ogallala, Nebraska; three grandsons, Chris (Sarah) Hackett of Alexandria, Kentucky, Justin (Mandy) Hackett of Upland, California, and Michael (Teresa) Hackett of Alexandria, Kentucky; two great-granddaughters, Payton Hackett and Keira Hackett, both of Alexandria, Kentucky; and other relatives and friends.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, September 23, 2006, at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Hancock, Iowa. The Offutt Air Force Honor Guard of Bellevue, Nebraska, conducted the service. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of the arrangements.
