Helen June (Potter) Burger was born on October 23, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Known to many as “June”, she was raised in Salt Lake City. She married Leon Fay Burger and they became the parents of six children. June moved to Shelby, Iowa, where she raised her children and worked at the Turner Furniture factory in Tennant, Iowa, for several years. She then worked as a laborer in beef packing plants in Omaha, Nebraska, and Council Bluffs, Iowa, before retiring in 1988. In March 2003, June became a resident of Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she made many friends. While living there, she liked to let others know she was thinking of them by giving them cards.

A longtime Shelby County, Iowa, resident, June was known to be a hard worker. She took pride in raising a big vegetable garden and keeping a nice yard planted with beautiful flowers. June loved to spend time with family and friends, play Bingo and cards, and dance.

Helen J. “June” Burger died on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She had reached the age of 84 years, 9 months, and 25 days.

June was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, LeRoy Potter; and one sister, Ina May Potter. She is survived by three daughters, Debbie (Carl) Schadt of Palmdale, California, Candie Olson of Kimballton, Iowa, and Cindi (Keith) Kaufman of Harlan, Iowa; three sons, Robert (Regina) Burger of Papillion, Nebraska, Tim (Laurel) Burger of Harlan, Iowa, and Jim (Kim) Burger of Honey Creek, Iowa; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The memorial service was held on Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Phil Nielsen of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, Iowa, officiating.
