Jack Lee McCool, the son of Larry Steven and Juanita Jane (Theulen) McCool, was born on December 3, 1952, in Harlan, Iowa. He attended school in Tennant, Iowa, through the third grade. When the Tennant school consolidated with the Shelby, Iowa, school, becoming Shelby-Tennant Community School, Jack continued his education in Shelby; he graduated with the Class of 1971.
After graduation, Jack entered the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany, and served his country from July 1972 to July 1974. He continued his military service as a member of the United States Army National Guard from March 1977 to June 1979. Jack also worked doing road construction for several years.
Jack was a private person of deep conviction. He was a member of the Helmer Reyelt American Legion Post #150 in Harlan, Iowa. Jack truly enjoyed spending time working on cars.
Jack L. McCool died on Friday, April 7, 2023, at Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He had reached the age of 70 years, 4 months, and 4 days.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by one sister, Patricia (Donald) Engemann of Harlan, Iowa; one brother, Robert (Julie) McCool of Tennant, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Rev. Dale J. Gessert officiating. Casket bearers were Jeff Theulen, David McCool, Brent McCool, Gerald McCool, Troy Engemann, and Michael Engemann. Military rites were conducted by the Shelby American Legion Post #240, Shelby Iowa. Burial was in the Shelby Cemetery, Shelby, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home, Inc. in Harlan, Iowa, assisted the family with arrangements.
