Jean Lorea Lansman, the daughter of Homer DeWalter and Adda Beulah (Olson) Clark, was born on May 11, 1927, in rural Irwin, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm northeast of Irwin. Jean attended country schools and graduated from the Irwin High School. She then taught country school for a time.

On June 8, 1947, Jean was united in marriage with Gerald Leon Lansman at her parents’ home in Irwin; two children were born to this union. The couple farmed in southwest Iowa, specifically Audubon, Shelby, and Cass Counties, and they also lived in Council Bluffs and Exira, Iowa.

A truly kindhearted woman, Jean loved being a homemaker and farmwife. She tended a vegetable garden, canned produce, and was a good cook. Both Jean and Gerald enjoyed music and were members of the “Country Heirs”, where she played the accordion and Gerald played the guitar. In retirement, Jean and Gerald enjoyed wintering in Texas. Jean liked reading, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Jean died on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa. She had reached the age of 90 years, 6 months, and 28 days.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald Leon Lansman, on November 13, 2006; and two brothers, Howard Dean Clark and J. Lorren Clark. She is survived by two daughters, Jeannie (Ken) Peters of Lincoln, Missouri, and Linda (Robert) Hartigan of Bellevue, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Michael Lansman of Lincoln, Missouri, Douglas Hartigan of Omaha, Nebraska, Erin (Rob) Cowles of Sterling, Virginia, and Brendan (Kristin) Hartigan of Midvale, Utah; six great-grandchildren; the Staff of Elm Crest who became like family; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Rev. Donna Ewert of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Harlan, Iowa, officiating. Casket bearers were Jim Clark, Cody Clark, Larry Clark, Robert Hartigan, Douglas Hartigan, and Mark Rasmussen.
