Jeannine Adele Christensen

d. January 26, 2010

Jeannine Adele Christensen, the daughter of Victor and Anita (Waterbury) Johnson, was born on January 2, 1930, in Harlan, Iowa. She attended grade school in Corley, Iowa, and graduated from Harlan High School in 1947. On March 2, 1948, Jeannine married Orin Clair Christensen at the First Baptist Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple farmed in Monroe Township, with Jeannine actively helping on the farm until 1960, when she began working as a secretary and bookkeeper for Russell Sorensen at the Harlan Trading Post. She also worked for the Harlan Vet Clinic and spent more than 20 years as a CDS employee.

Jeannine was a member of Altamont Baptist Church in rural Shelby County, Iowa. She was a hard worker who enjoyed spending time with her husband and family. She took pride in owning her home along with her husband, and greatly loved the time she spent there. Her family also remembers her as being a much better cook than she gave herself credit for.

Jeannine A. Christensen died on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, having reached the age of 80 years and 24 days.

Jeannine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orin, on July 27, 2000, and one daughter, Ann Kathleen Christensen. She is survived by two sons, The Rev. Michael (Gail) Christensen of Newport News, Virginia, and Kim Christensen of Sioux City, Iowa; one sister, R. Virgene Shafer of Mondamin, Iowa; three granddaughters, Jeannine (Chris Brooks) Christensen of Newport News, Virginia, Rebecca (Joel) Larkin of Blaine, Minnesota, and Ellen (Jason) Gilbert of Williamsburg, Virginia; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services and burial were held on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa, with The Rev. Michael O. Christensen of the Warick United Church of Christ officiating. Casket bearers were Jeannine’s loving family and friends. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of the arrangements.
