Lucille Ann Evans, the daughter of Walter P. and Agnes S. (Christensen) Jessen, was born on July 5, 1929, in rural Exira, Iowa. She attended school at Hamlin Township and Jackson Township Country Schools. On February 24, 1948, Lucille and Edward Lee Evans eloped in Bentonville, Arkansas. The couple lived in Exira for two years before farming near Harlan and Jacksonville, Iowa, for several years. In 1954, Lucille and Edward moved to California; it was there that Lucille earned her GED. In 1963, they returned to the area, moving to Atlantic, Iowa, where Lucille worked for six years as a nurse at the Heritage House. In 1971, they moved to Kimballton, and in May 2007, to Elk Horn, Iowa. In July 2013, Lucille became a resident of the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.

Lucille had been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton since 1944, where she taught Sunday School for two years. She loved to cook, make salsa, and bake pies. Lucille enjoyed tending her vegetable garden and canning the produce from it.

Lucille A. Evans died on Thursday, November 28, 2013, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, at the age of 84 years, 4 months, and 23 days.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Lee Evans, on May 7, 2005; two brothers, Marvin Jessen and infant Wilmer Jessen; and one sister, Roselle Lowers. She is survived by four sons, John (Kay) Evans of Richland, Iowa, Charles Evans of Placitas, New Mexico, Jerry (Tracie) Evans of Elk Horn, Iowa, and Randy (Cindy) Evans of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Leonard Lowers of Bertha, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Rev. Paul M. Reynolds, Chaplain of the Salem Lutheran Home, officiating. Marcia Nelson, Kay Evans, Jason Evans, and Susie Thornburg served as musicians. Casket bearers were Jason Evans, Dale Dicicco, Zachary Evans, Jacob Larsen, Jason Melanson, and Eric Thornburg. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Kimballton, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
