Lynn Junior McCord, the son of Bradley L. and Hazel L. (Grabill) McCord, was born on January 17, 1926, in rural Harlan, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Harlan High School in 1944; he then completed two years of college. On September 3, 1950, Lynn married Grace Marie Corwin in Clear Lake, Iowa.

Lynn entered the United States Army in May 1951, and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged, Lynn returned to the Harlan area where he and Grace bought a farm near his family’s homestead. Lynn was a hardworking farmer who loved the land, and was a skilled blacksmith and carpenter. He also drove feed truck for Nelson Farm Supply of Harlan. Lynn retired from farming in the late 1980s, and the couple moved into town in 2010. They had recently become residents of Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan.

Lynn was an active member of Harlan Church of Christ, where he, along with Grace, sang in a quartet for nursing home church services. When he was younger, Lynn was a licensed pilot, and in more recent years he enjoyed fishing.

Lynn J. McCord died on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa. He had reached the age of 94 years and 15 days.
