Mary Ann Schwinderman, the daughter of John and Frances (Rosmann) Kirschbaum, was born on June 15, 1924, in rural Defiance, Iowa. She attended country schools in the Defiance area, and high school in both Defiance and Kirkman, Iowa. In April 1942, Mary married John Jurschak in Defiance. The couple farmed near Portsmouth, Iowa, until 1959, when they moved to Harlan, Iowa. John died in November 1966.

In September 1972, Jerry Schwinderman and Mary were married in Avoca, Iowa. Jerry died in August 2001, and in 2002, Mary moved to Omaha, Nebraska.

Mary was a former member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, and had most recently worshiped at Christ the King in Omaha. She was a dedicated and active mother who will be greatly missed.

Mary A. Schwinderman died on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at The Waterford at Roxbury Park in Omaha, Nebraska. She had reached the age of 92 years, 10 months, and 25 days.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Jurschak; her second husband, Jerry Schwinderman; and three sisters, Ione Allen, Marjorie Welsh, and Leona Gilmore. She is survived by four sons, John Jurschak of Seattle, Washington, James (Faith) Jurschak of Reno, Nevada, Jerome (Alexia) Jurschak of Katonah, New York, and Jay (Darci) Jurschak of Sacramento, California; three daughters, Jean Jurschak of La Jolla, California, Joan Jurschak of San Diego, California, and Julia Jurschak of Sacramento, California; one brother, Don (Kay) Kirschbaum of Omaha, Nebraska; three grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, May 15, 2017, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa, with Father John Frost celebrating. John Rosman served as the musician. Casket bearers were Jim Jurschak, Jay Jurschak, Jerome Jurschak, and Don Kirschbaum. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Portsmouth, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left online at www.burmeisterjohannsen.com.
