Phyllis Alda Robinson was born to Vern Arlington and Ella Laura (Trede) Clark on April 29, 1920, in Macedonia, Iowa. She graduated from Macedonia High School with the Class of 1938. On March 30, 1940, Phyllis married Meredith Garner “Bill” Robinson at her parents’ rural Macedonia home. The couple farmed in the Macedonia and Carson, Iowa, area until 1952, and in 1953, they moved to Shelby, Iowa, where Bill worked for Farm Service Coop. Phyllis stayed busy at home, lovingly caring for her family and raising their five boys. Following Bill’s death on October 31, 1998, Phyllis remained in their Shelby home until she became a resident of the Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa, in December 2014.

Phyllis was an active member of the Shelby United Methodist Church in Shelby, taking part in the UMW and various other church activities. She enjoyed making quilted comforters, and baking pies and cookies. A member of the Federated Women’s Club, Phyllis was also active in the community, helping at the Carstens Farmstead. She loved music, and she often shared this love by singing for the residents of the Avoca Nursing Home in Avoca, Iowa.

Phyllis A. Robinson died on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa. She had reached the age of 96 years, 10 months, and 2 days.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Meredith “Bill” Robinson; one son, Richard Robinson; one sister, LuAnn Bisbee; and one brother, John Clark. She is survived by four sons, Rod (Margaret) Robinson, Dave (Judy) Robinson, and Doug (Marci) Robinson, all of Shelby, Iowa, and Bob (Julie) Robinson of Fremont, Nebraska; one daughter-in-law, Connie Robinson of Castle Rock, Colorado; one brother-in-law, Max Bisbee of Carson, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on Monday, March 6, 2017, at the Shelby United Methodist Church in Shelby, Iowa, with Rev. Nathan Tabelisma officiating. Shirley Pattee and Dr. Ara Robinson served as musicians. Casket bearers were Jeff Robinson, Dan Robinson, Brad Robinson, Mike Robinson, Steve Robinson, Dr. Ara Robinson, and Shane Robinson. Burial was in the Shelby Cemetery, Shelby, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Shelby, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
