Randall Henry Stolz, the son of George Henry and Marie Margaret (Blum) Stolz, Jr., was born on December 17, 1950, in Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Randy graduated from Harlan (Iowa) High School in 1970. On December 11, 1971, he married Patricia Ann Stessman in Defiance, Iowa; they had four children together. The couple later divorced.

Randy worked at the IBP hide plant in Denison, Iowa, for 20 years. He began farming his father’s land in the summer of 1987, and continued farming for a few years before moving to Earling in 1993. During that time, he also worked at Farmland. A good mechanic, he had always done small engine work, repairing motorcycles, lawn mowers, snow blowers, and other small engines; for the last 15 years, Randy did this work fulltime.

Randy was of the Catholic faith and had received Last Rites of the Church. He was big-hearted and friendly, and had a great sense of humor. Randy had his own nickname, “Hiney”, and also had a nickname for everyone he met. He enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR racing, and especially loved cheering on his favorite football team, the Minnesota Vikings.

Randall H. Stolz died on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having reached the age of 63 years, 9 months, and 21 days.
