Rhoda Irene Henriksen

Rhoda Irene Henriksen was born on November 12, 1929 in Audubon, Iowa, the daughter of Knud and Clara (Hanson) Jessen. She attended school in Audubon where she graduated in 1948. During her senior year and following graduation, she worked at Carlson Seed Corn Co., showcasing her strong work ethic from a young age.

On November 28, 1948, Rhoda married Howard Henriksen at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. The couple went on to farm in rural Shelby County, Iowa until 1971 when they made their home in Harlan. 

A woman of faith and commitment, Rhoda was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville where she contributed to the Choir, Sunday School and Bible School Teacher. Her involvement extended to organizations such as 4-H Leader, Farm Bureau Women, Christian Women’s Club bible studies, Cluster 11, and she served as a Certified Nurse’s Aide. Rhoda's dedication to serving others shone through in every aspect of her life.

Rhoda had a passion for quilting, sewing, and crocheting. Her skillful hands created masterpieces that will be cherished by many for years to come. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and Rhoda's chocolate chip cookies were legendary. But above all her hobbies and interests, Rhoda's greatest joy came from being with her grandchildren and attending their various events. Her presence brought warmth and love to every occasion.

On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, Rhoda passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at Elm Crest Senior Living Community in Harlan, attaining the age of 94 years, 3 months, and 15 days. She was known for her warm heart and unwavering support for her family and friends. In her passing, she leaves behind a legacy cherished by many. 

Rhoda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Henriksen; three daughters: Peggy Jo Gragert, Bonnie Lowry and one in infancy; two grandsons: Jason Lowry and Justin Henriksen; one great-grandson: Bradyn Musich; sisters: Edna Rasmussen, Verna Preslicka, Martha Jones, Lou Ella Ramberg, and LeeAnna Adams. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia (LaVern) Musich of Roosevelt, Utah; three sons: Ronald (Debi) Henriksen of Harlan, Iowa, Randy Henriksen, and Larry Charles (Molly) Henriksen, both of Urbandale, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Rhoda’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Sarah Devine, Myrtue Hospice, and the compassionate team at Elm Crest Senior Living Community for the exceptional care they provided to Rhoda.

Visitation with Family Greeting Friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville. Burial will be held in the Jacksonville Cemetery in Jacksonville. Memorials may be directed to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
