Rhonda Lou Nelsen, the daughter of Melvin Glen and Myrna Mae (Krummel) Nelsen, was born on October 10, 1959, in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended Shelby (Iowa) Public Schools, and graduated from Shelby High School in 1978. After completing her two-year nursing degree at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Rhonda continued her education at Bellevue University, Bellevue, Nebraska, and received her BSRN. Following graduation, she worked for various Omaha-area hospitals. Rhonda was then employed by the United States Government as an insurance fraud investigator, working in Iowa, Nebraska, and Arizona. In December 2017, Rhonda made her home in Avoca, Iowa.
Rhonda was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed all types of sewing; she like making her own clothes and special teddy bears she called “Roni Bears.” Rhonda loved spending time with her dogs and tending her flower gardens. Christmas was a treasured season for Rhonda; she cherished the time spent decorating and celebrating with her family.
Rhonda L. Nelsen died on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at her home in Avoca, Iowa. She had reached the age of 61 years, 10 months, and 15 days.
Rhonda was preceded in death by her mother, Myrna Nelsen. She is survived by her father, Melvin Nelsen of Shelby, Iowa; one daughter, Carissa Holloway of Omaha, Nebraska; one son, Joshua Brammann of Avoca, Iowa; two brothers, Steve (Kerry) Nelsen of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dan (Lynette) Nelsen of Walnut, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the Shelby Cemetery, Shelby, Iowa. Pastor Heather Ploen of United Lutheran Church, Shelby, Iowa, conducted the service, and Rhonda’s loving family served as casket bearers.
