Roger Wilbert Johannsen, the son of Wilbert J. and Irene N. (Krohnke) Johannsen, was born on January 13, 1933, on the family farm three miles east of Schleswig, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Roger attended Schleswig Public Schools.

On April 22, 1951, Roger married LaJune Fay Friedrichsen in Schleswig. The couple farmed the Johannsen family farm until 1975, when they moved into Denison. Roger continued to help his son, Russ, with the farm until 1985. He also worked as a commodity broker and real estate agent until 2000, when he retired. Roger and LaJune then moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where they lived for a number of years before their most recent move, to Audubon, Iowa, where they have spent the last 17 years.

Roger embraced the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Roger enjoyed collecting and shooting firearms, most of which were handguns. He liked to follow the agriculture markets and grain prices. Roger also enjoyed bowling.
