Ronald William Burgin

Ronald William Burgin, son of Raymond Burgin, Sr. and Ruth McKeighan was born on July 10, 1934, near Walnut, Iowa. Ron lost his brave battle with cancer on January 27th surrounded by his loving family at the age of 77 years, six months and 17 days. Ron attended country school in Corley, Iowa through the 8th grade and graduated from Harlan High School in 1952. On November 4, 1955, Ron was united in marriage to Dollithea (Dolly) Pearle Fleming at Atlantic, Iowa. To this union four children were born. Ron and Dolly farmed in the Corley area for eight years before moving to Harlan where Ron worked at Squealer Feeds for 33 years and later worked at Molded Products for 13 years. Ron was baptized and confirmed at the English Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa and later transferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan.

Ron and Dolly recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Ron’s pride and joy were the achievements of his children and grandchildren. In his retirement he enjoyed keeping up with his grandchildren’s events. Ron loved spending time with his family fishing at Prairie Rose Lake and watching old western movies. He reconnected with his farming roots by spending time helping his son, Bob, bale hay.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents. His survivors include his wife, Dolly Burgin of Harlan, IA; daughters, Theresa (Terrie) and her husband Robert (Mike) Dahlberg of Battle Creek, NE, Rhonda and her husband Edward Bastedo of King City, CA; sons, Robert Burgin and his wife Karen of Blair, NE, Richard Burgin and his wife Paula of Rochester, NY; brother, Raymond Burgin and his wife Dolores of Sheboygan, WI; 13 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at11:00 am at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. The clergy is Edward Bastedo and Steve Chellew. The music is provided by Marjorie Ahrenholtz and Lee Nelson. The pall bearers are Larry Wehr, Scott Petersen, Tom Burgin, Gordon Schack, Kenny Hursey, and David Tyrrel.
